How is Spiral Welded Pipe Made?

A spiral welded pipe is manufactured from hot rolled steel strip with a continuous helical weld on the internal and external of the pipe and is commonly called a Helical Submerged Arc Weld (HSAW).

This differs from Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded pipe (or LSAW pipe), which is manufactured from steel plate by bending and forming before welding down the length of the pipe to create a longitudinal weld seam.

Spiral welded pipe is used in a wide variety of industries including agriculture, infrastructure, and air conditioning ducting.

It also has common applications in the manufacture of machinery, structural engineering, fume extraction, augers, irrigation systems and marine piling.
